About Me: I am a third year doctoral candidate in the Education in Math Science and Technology (EMST) at the University of California, Berkeley. I graduated from University of Notre Dame with a B.A. in Psychology and Computer Applications. I received my M.Sc. in multimedia systems from Trinity College Dublin.
Research Interests: My research interests revolve around students' difficulties learning mathematics. This focus has grown out of both my personal experience working as a tutor, and my exposure to helping students in the classroom environment. Within the context of the math class, there is rarely the resources or time to conduct a detailed investigation of the sources of students' difficulty. As a tutor, one has the ability to probe more deeply into how the student understands the mathematical concepts. I am interested in the use of individual instruction as a way of exploring students' learning difficulties. In addition, I hope to develop successful remediation strategies to help students overcome their difficulties.
