Background: I am a third-year Ph.D. student in Education in Math, Science, and Technology (EMST) at the University of California, Berkeley. My background is in Business and Computer Science (University of Pennsylvania), but I became interested in mathematics education after teaching high school math here in the Bay Area after college. I'm also originally from Chicago, which automatically means I'm a Cubs, Bulls, and Bears fan for life.
Research Interests: Broadly speaking, I am interested in how race and identity manifest in mathematics classrooms, as well as the ways in which they may mediate mathematics learning at the secondary level. In order to parse these complex issues I draw on theories and perspectives from a wide range of disciplines, such as sociology, cognitive science, psychology, and critical studies.
