My interest is centered around language acquisition within embodied interactions to produce novel narrative discourse. My current project observes language acquisition, especially core vocabulary development of individuals who employ Augmentative and Alternative Communication.
I am also interested in the relationship between user interface development and the interaction of technology that creates access for individuals to communicate. I intend to combine embodied design with new media to create opportunities to acquire language for individuals with significant disabilities.
Prior to embarking on the doctoral program at UC Berkeley and San Francisco State University, I worked as a Speech Language Pathologist, especially as an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) specialist in the public education sector serving students from kindergarten through adult transition program. I continue to serve as a clinician for children and families who require speech and language services.
